Women’s History Month: 5 Amazing Women Who Are Changing The World

By March 22, 2022 No Comments

Since its official designation by Congress in 1987, we’ve celebrated March as Women’s History Month. This month-long celebration was created to highlight the historical and societal impacts made by women.

Congruence Talent Solutions is proud to be a woman-owned business, making Women’s History Month a particularly exciting time at our office. Awareness months provide an opportunity to expand our knowledge of and give attention to the histories and contemporary experiences of communities who have been historically marginalized.

We’re living in a new era where women are the CEOs of multinational companies and are being more frequently invited to take a seat at the table, side-by-side with their male colleagues. As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we want to feature some women who inspire us and have led the way for change.

Celebrating 5 Women Who Are Leading The Way

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is arguably the most famous female entrepreneur in history. She is best known for her daytime talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, which is the highest-rated television program of its kind and aired for 25 seasons. Additionally, she is a philanthropist, actress, and television producer. She has been dubbed the “Queen of all Media” and was once the world’s only black billionaire.

Sarah Blakely

One of Time magazine’s “Time 100” list of 100 most influential people in the world, Sarah Blakely is an American businesswoman and philanthropist. She faced rejection countless times during the early days of Spanx, but with some persistence, commitment, and a shout-out from Oprah, Blakely transformed the company into a billion-dollar business.

Gina Rinehart

Gina Rinehart is pushing the boundaries as a woman in a male-dominated industry. She assumed the duties of executive chairman of Hancock Prospecting, a privately-owned mineral exploration and extraction company founded by her father following his passing.

In the following years, Rinehart oversaw the company’s expansion, turning a company plagued by financial difficulties into the largest private company in Australia and one of the largest mining groups in the world.

Stacy Abrams

An American politician, lawyer, voting rights activist, and author, Stacy Abrams began her foray into politics at 29, when she was appointed a deputy city attorney for the city of Atlanta. Abrams has since served in the Georgia House of Representatives and became the first black woman in the US to be nominated to be a major party’s nominee for governor. Additionally, in 2019, Abrams was the first African-American woman to give the rebuttal to the State of the Union address and the only non-office holding individual to do so since responses to the address began in 1966.

In 2018, Abrams founded Fair Fight Action, an organization working to end voter suppression. She has also found success as an author writing both fiction and non-fiction works.
